A superb masterpiece as shown the cruelty of war.
This movie gave impact enough to say that Battle scenes in Hollywood movies could be divided before and after 'Saving Private.
Battle scene of traditional war movies were directed mostly to a camera shot of dramatic character. That is far from the actual battle scenes. But in this film, using a dipping technique by holding a handheld camera was realistically depicting battle scene, as well as viewing the documentary movie. In fact, after seeing this movie in the theater one of veterans was interviewed in tears the difference is only smell compare to that time.
For realistic battle scene the camera is not chasing a hero, it shows the battle is going on around and solders are falling and depicts literally as they show. A soldier who called his mother with an injury of revealed intestine, a scene that a soldier was carrying his cut off arm, a signal man who was dead with a perforated face, undoubtedly this movie destroys the romantic fantasies of the war which previous war movie had portrayed. Here is no meaning of separation between friends and enemies, it remains vanity and cruelty of war.
